Lazio is a region that is home to one of the most famous and ancient cities in the world: Rome, the Eternal City. It is rich in monuments, history, culture and spirituality. Everywhere one goes, it is an open-air museum.
One of the most famous sights in the city is definitely the Colosseum (must-see once in lifetime), the ancient Roman amphitheatre built in 72 AD. It creates an atmosphere where the ancient architecture makes it possible to immerse in the history of Rome. Also a must is the Pantheon, the best preserved ancient monument in the city, with its dome and millennial history.
Another must-see is the Vatican City, the smallest state in the world and the seat of the Catholic Church. Inside it is possible to visit St Peter’s Basilica, one of the largest and most spectacular religious buildings in the world, with its dome designed by Michelangelo. Impossible not to mention its artistic treasures, such as the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum, which houses a vast collection of works of art.
But Rome is also a lively and cosmopolitan city with many modern attractions such as the Trastevere district, where it is possible to find restaurants, bars and shops.
