Craco

Craco, the Ghost Town

Set amidst the typical “lunar” landscape of Basilicata, with its vast stretches of clay hills known as calanchi, lies Craco — the ghost town. Perched on the rugged hills of the inland countryside, it offers breathtaking panoramic views.

This small village, once home to over 2,000 residents, was suddenly abandoned in the 1960s due to landslides that rendered the homes unsafe. The abrupt and forced evacuation transformed this picturesque town into a ghost town, cloaked in an air of mystery. Over the years, Craco has become a popular film set for numerous internationally acclaimed movies, including Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, James Bond: Quantum of Solace by Marc Forster, and many more.

With your guide, you’ll walk through the narrow alleys of the village, uncovering its fascinating history and intriguing secrets. At the end of the visit, you’ll comfortably return to the Resort.
